add controls for straight line selections (shift select) and area selections (rectangle, circle/ellipse).

Yes, it would be very powerful and help clean up the edges of objects with straight-line borders. Most graphics programs allow you to select a line's begin point, end point, and hold the shift key to generate the line parameter. The developer could incorporate this convention and add much value!
